How to Work and Wander: Bonita & Dylan’s Guide to Life on the Road

Living Life On The Road

Bonita and Dylan, the dynamic duo behind Our Coasting Life, set out from their hometown of Port Macquarie, NSW, in June with a shared dream of exploring Australia’s vast and diverse landscapes. With a love for the outdoors and camping, their journey has taken them north to Port Douglas, west through the Northern Territory, and across to the breathtaking expanses of Western Australia. Along the way, they’ve spent weeks discovering hidden gems, making lifelong friends, and embracing the freedom of road-tripping.

The pair initially planned to find work in Western Australia, drawn by its rugged beauty and opportunities to dive into new experiences. Though the prospect of working in mining was on their radar, the journey itself introduced them to unexpected opportunities. Dylan’s plumbing skills opened doors to roles across WA, while Bonita’s talent for content creation landed her a unique position collaborating with a remote caravan park, managing social media and influencer outreach.

Turning Adventures into Opportunities

Their approach to finding work evolved as they travelled. Early in their journey, Bonita and Dylan met fellow travellers who shared tips about securing jobs at resorts, on stations, or through local connections. Inspired, they kept an open mind and discovered how rewarding spontaneity could be. From restaurant gigs to collaborating with brands online, they explored diverse opportunities to sustain their travels.

In WA, they landed a dream gig at Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park, where Dylan tackled plumbing upgrades, and Bonita turned her love for storytelling into a role-creating content for the park. The arrangement provided them with not just an income but also free cabin accommodation and food deliveries - a perfect solution for life on the road.

From plumbing to social media to housekeeping, the pair has proven that combining creativity and resourcefulness can lead to incredible experiences.
